Why DSTV can’t give Nigerians Pay Per View subscription model – MultiChoice GM

Mabutho said TV rights would not allow the subscription model to be possible.

The General Manager of Multichoice Nigeria, Martin Mabutho has said DSTV can’t offer Nigerian subscribers the Pay As You Use service as there is nowhere in the world where that is obtainable.

“I have never seen that anywhere in the world,” Mabutho emphatically said. “Quote me anywhere, I’ll be willing to with you when you find one.”

Mabutho made the revelation while giving answers on concerns of participants at the 6th edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) on Wednesday.

He, however, said that what is available was Pay Per View, which he said is an almost impossible subscription model to adopt because of the charges on TV rights.

“Let me give you a practical example, when you go to watch an Arsenal match at the stadium and you step out of the stadium, they won’t say you’ve only used fifteen minutes and refund part of your money,” he said.

“That is what happens when we pay for TV rights. We don’t know NEPA because when they charge us for rights, we are not given any discounts.”

The Multichoice boss also used the opportunity to give out a free DSTV Explora decoder to a member of the audience.
