I tossed and turned for about an hour before I finally started to drift off to sleep. Then I hear the sound of my phone ringing and jolt back awake.
“Ughhh!” I groan as I reach over and grab the phone off the bedside table.
“Hello...” I mumble.
I hear loud music in the background and then a voice. “Hey baby. What you doin?”
I sit up and wipe my eyes. “Josh? What is it?” I ask.
“Just miss you. You wanna come pick me up?” He slurs.
I look at my clock and see its 2:13 am. I roll my eyes and throw the covers off. I walk over and slide my shoes on.
“Where are you?” I ask as I throw on a jacket.
“Club Level.” He answers. I hear him cover the speaker on the phone as he mumbles something to someone and laughs.
“I'll be there in about ten minutes. Be ready because I'm tired.” I say. He mumbles “Okay” and we hang up.
I could always tell him to call a cab. I mean the guy has so much money he doesn't know what to do with it. Except blow it on clubs and alcohol. But instead here I am going to pick him up at two in the morning.
I open the door to my bedroom and tiptoe out. Didn't want to wake up Nikki. She would just be pissed off I was going to pick up Josh again.
I walk to the elevator and press the button to go down. I step out at the bottom and smile at the doorman who is waiting to open the door for me. “Hello Ms. Thompson.”
“Hey Norman. Long night?” I ask. He smiles and nods. “Yes Ma'am.” He didn't say much more than that most of the time.
I hated going out at night alone. I held my keys in my hand and kept the small bottle of pepper spray that I had as a key chain ready.
I get in my car and pull out the parking lot towards Club Level. Most people would call me stupid for doing this. Josh and I had been broken up for a little over 6 months now. Even though we weren't officially together, I tended to run to him when he called. I told myself a million times that I was done and I needed to stop but I gave in each time.
Nikki would say. “Girl you are too hot to be messing around with Josh's lame ass.” It's hard when your heart won't seem to let go.
I haven't dated anyone since we broke up. Guys have asked me out but I turned them down. My heart just wasn't in it. Josh on the other hand has had his fill with the ladies. I see a new picture of a new female every other week on his instagram. I stalk it regularly.
I pull up to Level and send Josh a quick text that I'm here. The bouncer at the door, Max, who is a friend of mine walks up to the car. I roll down the window and smile.
“Let me guess. Here to get Josh?” He says.
I sigh. “I know, I know. I have idiot written on my forehead don't I?” I say. He smirks and nods. “Just a little. Need me to wipe it off for you?”
I laugh and shake my head. Before I know it I see Josh come out the front door, stumbling a little as he walks. Max is kind enough to open the door for him so he can get in.
“Thanks man” Josh says as he plops down in the passenger seat. Max shakes his head in disapproval but waves bye to me.
I start heading towards Josh's place as he grabs my free hand.
“I missed you Lex.” He places a kiss to the back of my hand.
“Josh. How much have you had to drink?” I ask him. He looks at me through bloodshot eyes.
“Not too much. A few shots and a few beers.” He tells me.
He seems to notice where I'm going and groans. “Why can't we go to your place?”
I shake my head. “Because you need to get home and go to bed.”
He leans over and starts to kiss my neck as he takes a hand and pushes it down between my legs. “But I want you to take care of me. You always do such a good job taking care of me.” He nuzzles his head between my neck and shoulder. His hand moves over the area where my clit is and I bite my lip to hold back the sounds of pleasure that want to break free.
“I have to work in the morning Josh. We have a deadline on a project that we have to meet.” I tell him even though my body is wanting to answer differently.
He sighs and sits back against his seat. “Work. Work. Work. That's all you ever think about.”
My lust turns to anger as I grip the wheel. “Sorry. Some of us have to do that for a living. Not everyone has rich parents Josh.”
Josh inherited millions when he turned 18 and now he wastes his time blowing it on partying and girls. That fact about him makes me sick to my stomach.
Josh rolls his eyes and pulls his hand away from mine as he places his head in his hands.
“I know I know I know.”
I turn down the road that leads to his two story house he purchased recently. It cost way more than it should have and he willingly threw the money out without even thinking to negotiate. I shake my head with disgust.
I pull up in the driveway and wait for him to step out. He looks up at me and grins.
“You want to come in for a minute?” He asks.
I turn my head the other way and stare out the window. “I told you I can't.” I say in a soft voice.
He reaches over and turns my face to look at him. “Why don't you love me anymore Lex?”
I look into his eyes and my heart melts. This man was gorgeous. He could ruin me just as fast as he could fix. I swallow the lump in my throat and push back the tears that are wanting to escape.
“Josh that's my problem. I DO love you. And I can't do this to myself anymore.”
There. I said it. He snatches his hand back almost as if I bit him.
“Do what? Care about me? Alexis stop with the bullshit.” He says in anger.
“Go inside Josh.” I say softly. He sits for a minute as he looks at his hands. Finally his anger gets the better of him as he says.
“That's fine. Fuck it. I'll call someone else. Have a good night.” He gets out and slams the door behind him. The tears fall as soon as I watch him go inside. I force myself not to go in after him. I was right about one thing. I couldn't do this anymore.
I go back to my apartment and crawl back into bed. It was a little past 3 in the morning now and I had to be up by 7 to get ready. I cry into my pillow until I finally get lost in sleep.
