RESIDENTS cashed in after thugs bombed a Standard Bank ATM in Lower Crossroads, Phillipi East in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A resident who lives near the ATM said she heard a big bang at about 3am.
“I did not know that criminals were bombing the ATM.
“I was surprised to see that in the morning,” said the resident.
Another resident said people got some of the cash because the criminals left some money behind.
“I also wanted to get some money but I was late,” he said.
Abongile Ntuthuka (46) said they were going to suffer without the ATM.
“Many people were using this ATM. We did not have to stress about transport money to go to town for cash, but these low-life criminals bombed it,” said Ntuthuka.
Western Cape police spokeswoman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said: “According to reports, police attended the scene at Ngqangi drive in Lower Crossroads.
“Upon their arrival they found that an ATM was bombed and an undisclosed amount of money taken. No one has been arrested.”
