Nigeria’s House of Representatives is to investigate the causes of the collapse of the auto-mobile industry in Nigeria.

The lawmakers want the executive to develop a policy and provide timelines to restrict government agencies from buying cars manufactured or assembled outside the country.
Not so long ago, automobile manufacturing companies like Peugeot, Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz had functional assembling plants in Nigeria.
But today, the plants have closed down and in many cases have relocated elsewhere.
The House wants a return to the good old days.
The lawmakers want ministries, departments and agencies of government banned from patronizing automobile industry out the country.
The lawmakers listed the benefits of having the automobile manufacturing and assembling plants within Nigeria to include technology transfer, employment of Nigerians and revenue generation through taxes.
